Digital Vehicle Inspection Checklist — VA + NY Pre-Loaded

The Inspect Pro checklist engine ships with the Virginia 20-point and New York 24-point lists pre-loaded, prompts the camera on photo-required checkpoints, and shows state criteria inline. Your techs move faster because the rule book lives inside the app — not on a laminated sheet taped to the bay wall.

What the checklist engine does

VA + NY checklists pre-loaded

Virginia 20-point Safety + DEQ Emission and New York 24-point Safety/Emission checkpoint lists ship with the app. Your inspectors see the state criteria inline as they work.

Required-field prompts

The inspector is prompted when a required checkpoint is left blank or a photo is owed, so accidental skips are caught before the report is sent to the customer.

Pass / fail / repair per checkpoint

Three-state result for every point. Notes optional on pass, encouraged on fail. Repair flagging goes straight to the customer report.

Owner-configurable photo requirements

Shop owners decide which checkpoints prompt the camera. Defaults are tuned to match VA and NY checkpoint criteria; you can add more.

Inline state criteria

Each checkpoint shows the exact state criteria (e.g., VA tread depth ≥ 2/32) inline — no rule-book lookup.

Custom shop checklists

Run your own pre-inspection or courtesy checklist alongside state workflows. Different checklists per bay or service type are supported.

Why one shared checklist matters

Most DVI platforms let shops configure their own checklist. That sounds flexible until two inspectors in the same bay end up running different versions of the VA Safety list — one tighter, one looser — and a customer notices the inconsistency between visits.

Inspect Pro takes the opposite stance: the VA 20-point and NY 24-point checklists are pre-loaded with the published criteria, so every tech in every bay runs the same list. You can layer custom checklists on top (pre-inspection, courtesy, service-specific), but the state list itself is shared and consistent across your team.

Pair that with inline criteria, photo prompts on required checkpoints, and a branded PDF report at the end, and the inspector spends their time inspecting instead of looking up rules.

FAQ

Can I customize the inspection checklist?+

Custom shop checklists and photo-requirement toggles are configurable per shop. The VA and NY state checklists ship pre-loaded with the published checkpoints and criteria, so every tech in every bay runs the same list. You can add additional checkpoints beyond the state minimum if your shop wants extra coverage.

Does the checklist prompt for photos?+

Yes. Shop owners toggle which checkpoints prompt the camera per checkpoint. When a required photo slot is empty, the inspector sees the prompt before sending the report to the customer.

Can inspectors skip checkpoints?+

Required checkpoints prompt the inspector if left blank, so accidental skips are caught before finalization. Optional checkpoints can be marked N/A with a note.

What happens to failed checkpoints?+

Every fail is captured with a note and any attached photos, logged on the customer's branded PDF report, and flagged in the inspection history. For VA and NY, fails also feed into the inspector's rejection-sticker workflow.

Are there different checklists for different inspection types?+

Yes. Safety, Emission, and Full are the three types in VA; the inspector picks the type at inspection start and the appropriate checklist loads. NY follows a similar structure.

Is there a printable version of the checklist?+

The digital checklist is designed to replace paper. For a printable reference version for training or backup, see our free 20-point checklist resource.
