Digital Vehicle Inspection Checklist — Enforced, Not Suggested
The Inspect Pro checklist engine enforces state-specific checkpoints for Virginia and New York, blocks skipped required fields, and attaches photo evidence to every fail. Your techs move faster because the rule book lives inside the app — not on a laminated sheet taped to the bay wall.

What the checklist engine does
State-compliant checklist libraries
Virginia Safety, VA DEQ Emission, and NYS Safety/Emission checkpoint lists are pre-built. Your inspectors see the state criteria inline as they work.
Required fields enforced
The software blocks the inspector from finalizing if a required checkpoint is skipped. State compliance becomes architecturally impossible to violate.
Pass / fail / repair per checkpoint
Three-state result for every point. Notes optional on pass, required on fail. Repair flagging goes straight to the customer report.
Owner-configurable photo requirements
Shop owners decide which checkpoints require photo evidence. Defaults match VA and NY compliance expectations; you can add more.
Inline state criteria
Each checkpoint shows the exact state criteria (e.g., VA tread depth ≥ 2/32) inline — no rule-book lookup.
Custom shop checklists
Run your own pre-inspection or courtesy checklist alongside state workflows. Different checklists per bay or service type are supported.
Why enforcement matters
Most DVI platforms let shops configure their own checklist. That sounds flexible until the day a tech skips a required VA Safety checkpoint and the VSP flags it on a monthly audit. At that point "configurable" becomes "liable."
Inspect Pro takes the opposite stance: the state-required checklist is enforced, not configurable. You cannot remove a required VA Safety checkpoint. You cannot finalize an inspection with a skipped required field. You cannot enter an invalid sticker number. The software refuses, and your shop never gets flagged for something architecturally impossible.
That is what state-compliant means in practice — the software says no when it needs to.
FAQ
Can I customize the inspection checklist?+
Yes for custom shop checklists and photo-requirement toggles. State-mandated checklists (VA, NY) are fixed to the state criteria — you cannot remove required checkpoints, because doing so would break compliance. You can add additional checkpoints beyond the state minimum if your shop wants extra coverage.
Does the checklist enforce photo evidence?+
Yes. Shop owners toggle which checkpoints require photo evidence per checkpoint. When a required photo is missing, the inspector cannot finalize the inspection.
Can inspectors skip checkpoints?+
Required checkpoints cannot be skipped — the software blocks finalization. Optional checkpoints can be marked N/A with a note.
What happens to failed checkpoints?+
Every fail is captured with a note and photo (if required), logged on the customer's branded PDF report, and flagged in the inspection history. For VA and NY, fails also trigger the state's rejection sticker workflow.
Are there different checklists for different inspection types?+
Yes. Safety, Emission, and Full are the three types in VA; the inspector picks the type at inspection start and the appropriate checklist loads. NY follows a similar structure.
Is there a printable version of the checklist?+
The digital checklist is designed to replace paper. For a printable reference version for training or backup, see our free 20-point checklist resource.
